Squash Courts

This is a project to document every squash court in the world. You can read about the project genesis here.

I’ve heard there are about 50,000 squash courts in the world, and so far I’ve added less than 100.

Here’s a map of what I’ve got so far:

I’m also adding the courts to this blog. Each country will have its own page of courts. You can also scroll down to view courts I’ve added so far.

I add courts to this list as I find out about them. If you’d like to add your courts to the map, please contact me here.

Here are the squash courts I’ve found for Wellington, New Zealand:

The above map has been filtered to show only the courts in Wellington, New Zealand. To view the full world map (under construction), click here.

As I write this blog, I come across news articles about squash clubs all over the world. The other day I read about a new court being built in Sierra Leone. Crazy.

I often think about how cool it would be if there were a Google map showing all the squash courts in the world. As far as I know, this doesn’t exist, so I’ve started creating one.

At the moment I’m approaching it in a haphazard manner, adding courts as I discover them in the process of blogging. You can see the updated version of the map here.

I’ve got less than 50 courts listed at the moment. And I’ve read there are around 50,000 courts in the world. So I’m not sure if I’ll ever complete this project. But I figure it will be pretty cool all the same.

I’ll also be adding posts to this blog, one for each country, to hold the club listings. This will make it possible to search the list of courts. So, you’ll see those pop up from time-to-time in my blog feed.

I’m not the first person to attempt a list like this. The Website SquashTalk seems to have a fairly comprehensive list, though I’m not sure how actively it’s being updated.

I’m not going to try and record the number of courts at each club, or the nature of each club (public/private), simply because it’ll take much longer to do that. Maybe that’s a project for later.

I’ve made the map publicly editable in Google, so that other people can contribute to the list. However, I’m not actually sure how other people go about editing the map. Once I figure that out, I’ll post the instructions. For now, if you’d like to add your club to the map, send me the info via my new contact page.
