2014 British Open Squash Equipment (Men)

Here’s my recap of all the 2014 British Open squash equipment. I got all the players from at least the round of 16, plus a few extras.

Fares Dessouky

Egyptian Fares Dessouky made it all the way through the British Open qualifying rounds and then scored a significant upset in the first round of the main draw over Karim Abdel Gawad, who was trailing in the fifth game when he retired due to injury. He’s now into the quarterfinals against Nick Matthew.

Tarek Momen

Egypt’s Tarek Momen advanced to the second round of the British Open after fighting off the “Flying Finn” Olli Tuominen. He lost to Mohamed El Shorbagy in the second round.

Borja Golan

Borja Golan had a tough first-round loss to Mathieu Castagnet at the British Open.

Racket: Though Borja is newly sponsored by Eye Rackets, it looks like he’s still using his old Dunlop Biomimetic Pro GT-X 140 (but painted with Eye brand markings)
Shoes: Asics Gel Domain

Mathieu Castagnet

Mathieu Castagnet scored a 5-game upset over Borja Golan in the 2014 British Open, complete with a late-match blood injury that forced Mathieu to wrap his head in a massive bandage. He eventually lost to Shorbagy in the quarters.

Racket: Black Knight Ion Cannon PS
Shoes: Salming Race R1 2.0. New shoes for the Frenchman!

Adrian Grant

Here’s England’s Adrian Grant, who took out Hong Kong’s Leo Au in 4 close games to reach the second round. Liking the coordination between his Salming shirt and shoes:

Daryl Selby

Daryl Selby made it through to the second round of the British Open with a solid 3-1 win over Saurav Ghosal. Nice color-coordinated Adidas kit to go with his Black Knight racket:

Saurav Ghosal

Here’s Saurav Ghosal, who had a tough first-round draw, losing to Daryl Selby 3-1.

Mohamed El Shorbagy

Mohamed El Shorbagy advances to the second round with a 3-1 win over Alister Walker. At the moment he’s now into the semifinals.

Karim Darwish

Karim Darwish beat Ong Beng Hee 3-1 to advance to the second round. He ended up losing to Dessouky in the second round.

Nick Matthew

England’s Nick Matthew moved into the second round with a 3-0 win over compatriot Joe Lee. He’s about to play his quarterfinal match with Fares Dessouky.

Ramy Ashour

Here’s Ramy Ashour at the British Open. He beat Marwan El Shorbagy 3-0, and is currently into the quarterfinal, matched up against James Willstrop.

Racket: Prince Airstick 130
Shoes: Adidas Opticourt Team Light 2

Greg Gaultier

Gaultier absolutely incinerated Chris Simpson, 3-0. Every shot Gaultier hit died in the back nick on the second bounce. Up next he’s going to play Amr Shabana in the quarterfinal.

James Willstrop

James took out Simon Rosner and then Omar Mosaad, and will face off against Ramy in the quarters.

Shoes: Adidas Adipower Stabil 10.1

He’s switched shoes, going from the older Adidas Adipower Stabil 10 to the Adidas Adipower Stabil 10.1.

LJ Anjema

LJ took out Peter Barker in the first round (Barker retired injured), before losing to Ramy in the second round.

Marche scored a big win over Cam Pilley in the first round, before losing 3-1 to Shabana in the second round.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez

MAR had a tough 3-2 win over Nicky Mueller in the first round, but lost 3-0 to Gaultier in the second round.
