RIA have since come out with a squash-specific pair of goggles called the Reflex Indoor (previously known as the “Model 2”), and they’ve signed a deal to become an official eyewear partner of US Squash.

I liked my RIA squash goggles so much, I bought a pair of their sunglasses for pickleball and padel. Here’s a view of those

What’s up you guys. In today’s video I’m going to review the RIA Reflex sunglasses. These are the Court HD+ sunglass lenses. I have already done a review of the RIA Reflexes with white frames with clear lenses for squash. I loved them so much for squash that I bought them for outdoor sports. I use them for pickleball and I use them for padel. Any outdoor sports. Golf.
The reasons I’ve got them are that they’re extremely light. They’re all… feel like almost nothing in your hands.
They’re very comfortable. They hug my temples nicely. They’re a little bit adjustable if you want to tighten them a tiny bit.
I think that they look cool. They fit underneath a hat perfectly well. They come with a nice case that I keep them in along with some stuff to wipe the lenses and…some lens wipes that they give you.
The biggest point about these is that they are impact resistant. That’s polycarbonate lenses, ASTM certified impact resistant. These have a hundred percent UV protection; UVA and UVB protection.
So good for your eyes, both in terms of protecting them from an impact from a ball and also protecting you from the sun.
You might think oh pickleball, padel, how likely is it to get hit in the face? I was wearing these, I was actually playing indoors, so I was wearing my white ones with clear lenses and I was kind of wearing them as a joke playing padel. And I hit a ball off the back glass and the ball went directly into what would have been my eyes but instead I was protected by my RIAs.
For that reason I was willing to pay the premium price for these and also for the comfort and visibility reasons that I’m going to talk to you about. I just feel safer in case anyone hits an overhead and it just goes right into my face or a ball clips off somebody’s paddle and ends up bashing into my eyes, I know that I’m going to have eye protection. I like being able to see and I plan to keep these in working order for as long as I can.
So let me show you what these look like on your eyes cause this was like a bit strange. If I hold them up to the light here, you can almost see right through them. Let me show you in front of the lenses.
So you can see that they’re not dark. They’re very, they’re a little bit dirty so I should, you know what? Let’s clean them.
I’ll use my RIA cleaning rag to clean these so you can see better. That should be a little better. Okay so I’ll just put these over the lens…
You can see that they’re very clear. It doesn’t appear to be black or much darker. In some ways, you can actually see better with these on than you can with your naked eyes. This orange color gives everything a little bit of contrast. It’s still a little darker so if it’s a dark day, if there’s not a lot of light out, I might not put these on, but generally you can wear these in a lot of different lighting conditions and you can see just fine wearing them inside right here. It makes things a little bit darker but it’s still completely manageable.
So I bought these with my own money. Right now they’re $200 on riaeyewear.com. They’re actually out of stock in the black and in midnight blue. They do have white available. Give these a shot. They’re quite expensive compared to other options but I purchased these for myself because I like to be able to keep my eyes intact. I want to have sun protection.
I like the lightness of these and I think that they look good. It’s the kind of purchase where, you know, you can get a cheaper option, but in my book, I’ve found that if I just spend a little more money up front for a high quality product, I’m always going to prefer that to the cheaper one that’s available.
I mentioned I use these for squash with the white frames. I didn’t need to buy an entirely separate frame cause one of the things about the RIAs is that you can remove the lenses. You can swap them. In fact, inside this case they even give you room for your your glasses but then they give you space for expansion lenses. I may do that at some point in the future, I may buy myself a just a replacement pair of clear lenses just to have always in my pickleball and padel bag. There’s a little hex wrench in here, a little screw, and you just unscrew that and then the lenses can come out but that screw keeps them in place. When you’re moving around a lot you don’t want those to just pop out. So overall I love these, I highly recommend them, and I am a participant in their affiliate program too. I just recommend them to everybody and so go out and check them out: riaeyewear.com. Thanks! And I’ll see you in the next video. Bye.
