A few weeks ago, I got a private tour of the new Arlen Specter US Squash Center in downtown Philadelphia. It’s part of the Drexel campus, only a block away from where the US Open Squash Championships were previously held.
Here’s a little hype video I put together so you can see the whole facility:
It has 18 singles courts, two glass show courts, and two hardball doubles show courts that will use a white hardball, plus offices for US Squash and SquashSmarts. There are also locker rooms for the public, plus training facilities for the top US squash pros including private locker rooms and locations for weight lifting and physio treatments. AND SNACKS.
Previously for the US Open they would setup a temporary glass court set up in Drexel’s indoor basketball arena. Now they can host the whole tournament in this dedicated space, which used to hold the Philadelphia Armory, and had been used by Drexel for other sports more recently. Glad the Drexel president likes squash because this space is incredible and it immediately becomes the epicenter of squash in the United States.
See you in Philadelphia!
