Here are my current picks for the best squash gear on the market. These are the products I actually use myself. I’ve paid my own money for every product mentioned on this page, with a couple exceptions as noted below.
Keep in mind: what’s best for me today might not be best for you. In reality, the best squash gear is whatever YOU like best and gets you playing squash. But if you’re looking for inspiration, here are some ideas.
- Squash Racket: Dunlop Hyperfibre XT Revelation Pro Lite
- Squash Shoes: Asics Gel Tactic 2
- Squash Bag: Tecnifibre 12-racket shoulder bag
- Squash Ball: Dunlop double yellow dot
- Squash Strings: I’m easy
- Squash Goggles: Prince Pro Lite II
- Squash Grips: Solinco Overgrip
- Squash Clothing: It’s like, whatever
Squash Racket
For singles I’m using the Dunlop Hyperfibre XT Revelation Pro Lite. This is a newer model that I’ve just switched to in 2019.
I like this racket because it’s relatively light, with a slightly head-heavy balance. The head size is not too large, so it’s maneuverable in the corners. The frame feels a bit stiff, which I prefer. The grip size is a bit small — which is true of Dunlop rackets in general — and I like that because I use an overgrip on my rackets. For a new model, the price is pretty reasonable, at $150.

For doubles (hardball doubles), my preferred racket is the Harrow M-140. This racket was sent to me by Harrow, so I haven’t paid for it myself. The list price of a Harrow is $205 in the US, so they are expensive. If your club sells Harrow rackets, maybe you can get a better deal through your pro. Hopefully I’ll never break this one because I love it 🙂
The good things about this racket are it’s head-heavy, has a dense stringing pattern, and a concave frame that gives the racket extra stiffness. Also it’s a traditional bridged frame, which gives it the extra stability you need in doubles.

Squash Shoes
Right now I’m using the Asics Gel Tactic 2. Obviously with squash shoes you have to find something that feels comfortable on your feet, and I find these comfortable. They have pretty good cushioning, are reasonably priced (a few bucks more than the Gel Rocket 9 but worth it in my opinion), and have been durable for me. My pair is pretty basic style-wise, but they get the job done.
Squash Bag
I’ve got two picks in the squash bag department.
My regular daily bag is the Tecnifibre 12-racket bag. This is a big bag. To be honest, for most people, a 9-racket bag is probably sufficient. But keep in mind that I moonlight as a squash equipment blogger, so I often need to carry a lot of stuff to the courts. Sometimes I’ve got a load of rackets to test. Other times I’m bringing camera equipment along with me to record a video. Having a big bag is nice for those situations. It’s also nice if you’re traveling to a tournament and you just want to bring one bag with you (this is the reason I got the bag in the first place).
My second bag recommendation is the Dunlop Commuter Backpack. It’s a smaller “day bag” that has just enough space for one match worth of squash kit, but the nice thing about it is it’s got a discreet color scheme. I can bring it into the office without screaming SPORTS. And there are no racket handles sticking out the top of the backpack. I just did a giveaway of this bag… and bought myself my own copy because I like it so much.
Ball
I use the Dunlop double yellow dot, like most everybody else round these parts.

Strings
I’ll be honest: I’m not that much of a string connoisseur. Right now, I’m just playing with the factory Great White strings in my racket. I think I’d like something a little grippier, and I’ve liked some strings I’ve reviewed in the past, so I’ll have to revisit my own reviews and decide what I’m going to do. For now, it’s factory strings.
Goggles
I use the Prince Pro Lite II at the moment.

Grips
Personally I use overgrips as opposed to replacement grips. I think they’re better at sweat absorption. I used to be a fiend for Tourna Grip, but these days I’ve switched to Solinco Heaven. As far as I can tell it’s got similar absorbency, but it feels like it’s got a little more longevity. More importantly I like the gray color better. It’s a little bit more muted than the classic blue of Tourna.
Clothing
To be honest I don’t pay much attention to this area. For now I’ll just list a few items I like, and I’ll come back and edit this later.
- Shorts: Under Armour athletic shorts, or the white Nike ones mentioned here.
- Shirts: I just use stuff I get from tournaments or pick up at the pro shop when I forgot my shirt or just bought randomly over the years. I do think this and this are cool though 🙂
- Socks: I’m a fan of the Fox River socks
- Headbands from Suddora

Shoes – I wish I had bought several pairs of blast 7 before they disappeared, i owned 2 and looking for a 3rd to no avail. These were the best squash shoes i ever owned, after the previous blasts.
The “replacement” blast FF comes in much lighter and I think heavier players like me will start to feel the floor quickly and destroy them. I avoid any shoe that doesn’t have a solid cover over the front, as the blast 7 did. Open Mesh like the front on tactic and rocket is incapable of providing structure to the rest of the shoe and the foot, which is why they are lower end.
Grips – the best grip I have ever found in any category is Black Knight RAD Mesh. You can use as a replacement grip or over stock grip. It’s thick rubbery ridged surface is also very durable. Wet or dry, this gives me zero slippage. I change every 6 months. Also you can run it over the stock grip with half inch gap you’ll only use half each time and get a more textured feel. It has strong adhesive on the back.

Hi Pierre – the Dunlop Hyperfibre XT Rev Pro Lite racquet you like here (unlike the Farag signature) does not use Dunlop Silk but rather Great White which is a step below Silk and really not a great string – put some Ashaway Ultranick in it and it becomes an altogether even greater racquet

Good catch thanks Malick. The Ultranick is nice. I just tried it for the first time testing out one of the Ashaway rackets. Nice and powerful.

That’s funny, I’ve been stringing with Ultranick 17 for years but tried great white and I like it better. It feels a bit stretchier than the ultranick and gives a bit more pop. To each his own I guess.

Hi Pierre,
I also favor overgrips for sweat absorption. I have used tourna grip (over a karakal pu replacement) exclusively for the past three years, but I also find the longevity to be lacking, often really falling off within a week of three 90-minute sessions.
I’m interested in the Solinco, but it seems that holabird isn’t carrying it any more. It would only make sense to buy in the 12-pack (that’s the advantage of tourna–the relatively affordable 30 packs–over superior overgrips like wilson’s, in my opinion).
Do you know any other outlets that stock the solinco for the US market?

Hi Laird, Holabird still has them in a 3-pack, I’ve updated the link now…

Thanks! I just noticed there’s some affordable 30 packs on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Solinco-Heaven-Grip-Tennis-Overgrip/dp/B016BC3BME/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Solinco+Heaven+Grip&qid=1574359828&sr=8-1

Thanks for putting this list together Pierre! What do you like about the Asics Gel Tactic 2 over the Stabil Bounce?
Pierre says
()
I did like the Stabil Bounce. I think the Bounce and Tactic 2 are pretty similar in terms of stability and cushioning (I’m recalling the Stabil Bounce from memory). The Tactic 2s are a little less expensive and so far they are proving more durable. I’ve had them about 5 months and they still look in great shape. The Bounce had better cosmetics I think. Overall I’d give the edge to the Tactic 2s.

Thanks for that feedback. Like you, I’m a serial foot dragger and so better durability is important for me!
