Ramy Ashour beat Greg Gaultier to win the 2013 British Open. Ramy went undefeated for the ENTIRE SEASON. That is astounding.
Ramy faced intense competition this year. You can watch his matches on PSA Squash TV. My favorites include:
- His quarterfinal match against Peter Barker in the US Open, which Ramy won after being down match ball in the fifth game. I was lucky enough to watch this match in person.
- His match against Gaultier in the Tournament of Champions, where he came back from 2 games down in the final.
- His battle with Shorbagy in the final of the World Open.
Anyway I like to post equipment roundups of tournaments, and I have been working on this one for a while, so without further ado, I present the (almost) complete list of equipment for the 2013 British Open men’s draw. (The women’s recap is available here.) Thanks to Steve Cubbins, Steve Line, and Jordan Mansfield for the photos, and Richard Majlinder for the tips via Twitter.

No photo, sorry Adrian. I confirmed on Squash TV he was playing with the Harrow Spark and wearing the Salming Race R1.

I believe Gaultier is actually using a line of dunlop that will be released soon, the biofibre line. Paint job is slightly different than the elite, trying to figure out what racquet he was using was driving me crazy during the BO. A dunlop rep came to a camp with the latest line. Thanks for compiling this, great to have a reference for what the best use!

Thanks Will. I haven’t heard the “biofibre” term before. I was able to track down a picture: http://www.gstrings.co.za/Images/Large/Dunlop%20Biomimetic%20Elite%20Biofibre.jpg

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gaultier is still using the Custom Ice Elite, with the new paint job (as Pierre noted on Squashsite forum). You can tell by the shape of the handle where it tapers back into the throat area.

Ali anwar reda and James willstrop are using the exo3 pro tour, not the exo3 tour.

Good point Marlin, I have updated. Thanks

One thing I did notice – no matter the brand of racket, a majority of players seem to be using green strings. I’m assuming it’s Technifibre 305.
Also, Nick Matthew back to the S701’s, not the Infinity Flares?? Doesn’t look good for Hi Tec’s latest…

Hi Bopper, you’re right, it does seem like Tecnifibre 305 is the clear favorite for strings. And it’s funny that Nick Matthew sticks with the S701’s. He’s usually so keen on having the latest equipment. The Infinity Flares must be uncomfortable for him.
