I tested out the Solinco Heaven Grip, which is an overgrip.

Here’s my review. In short, this was an excellent overgrip — absorbent and durable.

Let’s face it, even in mildly hot and humid conditions squash players sweat – a lot. That’s the reason everybody has their favorite grip tape they swear by and consider universally recommendable. In my experience, however, finding one’s best fit for some players is not as easy as reaching for the ubiquitous Karakal PU Super Grip or the equivalent of your local pro’s house brand. Completely anecdotal – because I can’t explain if it’s due to an unusual composition of sweat, palmar hyperhidrosis, or other reasons – but for some, even in combination with rotating between rackets, wearing sweatbands, and regularly wiping hands, PU grips are not suited to ensure a persistently secure grip. Besides trying out every grip tape I could get hold of (no pun!), some unusual approaches I observed or tried out myself were wearing a golf glove, using spray chalk, or patting palm and racket handle with a rosin bag. Sadly, without sustained success. What I learned was that less tacky cloth grips work better for players with similar sweating behavior to me than PU ones that quickly become slippery bars of soap which at best result in uncontrolled shots and at worst an opponent hit with a racket you couldn’t prevent from flying out of your hand. For some years, I used Tourna Grip even though it’s expensive for an overgrip that doesn’t last longer than a few hours of play and is so abrasive it gives you blisters down to the flesh. I am over the moon Pierre’s review pointed me to the Solinco Heaven because being almost as controllable as the Tourna, while at the same time being significantly more durable, less expensive and abrasive, it has immediately become my favorite with its only downside being that it’s a little difficult to purchase in central Europe. To give it greater absorbance and better cushioning, I use it on top of a replacement grip or two Heavens on top of each other right on the racket’s handle. The reason for this post is that I am under the impression that the squash community in some places can be a bit overly conservative when it comes to trying out new equipment. To hopefully spare others the years of struggle I have gone through, I can only recommend that anyone unsatisfied with the performance of their grip tape give the Solinco Heaven a try.

Just switched to these after trying Wilson and Head over grips. These are fantastic especially with a PU under it. Thanks Pierre for recommending these. Definitely an upgrade.
