The Asics Gel Blast 6 first came out in 2014, and Asics have just introduced some new models in 2015.
Update: these have been succeeded by the Asics Gel Blast 7.
These are a big stylistic departure from the Asics Gel Blast 5, and many people don’t like the new design (see the comments). Some readers are suggesting the Asics Gel Fastball as an alternative.

I found these to be THE BEST squash shoe I’ve had. reason being I feel is because I have a narrow foot and these fit very snug, and wrap around my feel. I love them.

Hey Tom,
I know several people who have purchased the Gel Blast 6, unconcerned with the looks. What did concern them, however, was how uncomfortable the shoe turned out to be. It mostly had to do with the toebox. That new mesh does not flex and expand, it jams your toes and tapers toward the tip more than the older model. They have all moved off the Blast 6 to either Salming, or scoured vendors for remaining inventory of the Blast 5. I went out and found several pairs of the old Blast 5 myself.
Two different squash stores in my area have repeated the same thing back to me, in that the Blast 6 is unpopular with those who have actually made the purchase.
I unfortunately have no experience with the Blade 5.
I would counsel you to keep looking, and stick to something tried and true if you can find it, either by yourself, or with many reviews from others. If you find an online retailer who specializes in racquet sports, they may be able to answer your questions on sizing. A certain US tennis merchant also has tons of reviews on equipment, and they have a racquetball site as well.

Thank you very much for your comment D. For me, the flexibility of the sole is very important. It doesn’t sound like the Gel Blast 6 could offer me that.
If I can’t find the 5, I will consider the Fireblast 2.
Thanks again.

Hi, all. Not sure if this is a good place to ask this question here but I’m trying to choose between this and the Gel Blade 5. I think the latter looks a lot better but of course comfort and function takes a higher priority. The RRP suggests that the Gel Blast 6 should be a better shoe. Is that correct? What are the main difference between the two? Are the fit roughly the same?
The only way for me to try these on and compare is to order both online and given that I’ve never worn Asics before I’ll probably need to order two sizes each . Both are within my budget.
I would be grateful for any comments on this.
Many thanks.

I’m still hoping this is just a placeholder model. as I noticed it didn’t even have a vent opening on the sole like previous models. I do agree that it’s good to experiment with new models, but you don’t do that with one the best selling model lines…. Oh well, i guess i’ll stick around with the Blast 5 model or shoot for the MIzuno Stealth 2 or 3 model.

The feedback on the new Gel Blast design has been pretty negative. Personally I like the design, but maybe I am just staring at so many shoes that I am craving distinctive designs.
Seems like the takeaway here is if you are keen to introduce a striking new shoe, DON’T choose one of your most popular shoe lines as the guinea pig; instead, create a new shoe with its own personality.

I have been a long time user of the Asics Gel Blast 5, Blue. Though a little heavier than other Asics I’ve used through the years, they are by far the best. If you need extra cushioning, then the extra ounce or two is worth it.
Not only in comfort, but in looks, I feel the Blast 5 are the best looking squash shoes out there. Even the new Fireblast, which is significantly costlier, don’t match up with the Blast 5 looks.
This Blast 6, though, is actually quite terrible. It looks horrendous. Has no echo of the previous Gel Blasts. Not sure about comfort, never tried it. But if I had to change out of my Blast 5, I would consider Fireblast, not these terrible looking shoes which dont’ seem to fit in anywhere in the Asics range…

Did they get a basketball show designer to do this?

I’m a big Asics fan, but this is just horrible. I loved the Blast 4 and 5 , but this is to ugly for me 🙁 . For now i like the Rocket 7 look, too bad they are not top tier

Hi Zsolt, you’re right, it’s a big stylistic change. I had kind of forgotten about this since seeing a sneak peek of these shoes a few months ago. I added some more thoughts in the post itself!
