Asics Gel Game 9

I recently bought myself the Asics Gel Game 9 and Asics Gel Game 9 Pickleball. These are non-marking court shoes aimed at the tennis market, which I don’t normally cover, but I thought I’d order a pair of each and see how they looked.

Here’s a video breakdown I did of these shoes. There’s also a full transcript of the video below if you want to read it instead of watching. In summary, even though these shoes look very similar to other Asics shoes I’ve tried before, they were in the end somewhat uncomfortable on my feet. My best guess is they’re a little narrower than other shoes I’ve tried. They weigh 360 grams apiece (I’m a US 11.5).

The Gel Game 9 comes in a bunch of different colorways but this one is called Black and Hot Pink.

Asics Gel Game 9 Review

Here’s my review again of the Asics Gel Game 9, plus a transcript below.

Transcript

What’s up gang it’s Pierre and I have an unboxing and kinda look through of the Asics Gel Game 9. There’s two different kinds of shoes. There’s the regular Asics Gel Game 9, at least two different kinds, and there’s the Asics Gel Game 9 Pickleball. Yes that’s right. It’s not a pickleball shoe unless it literally says pickleball on it.

I find that so annoying. Sorry. I ordered myself both just to see if they were the exact same shoe and they really are. The orange one is the pickleball shoe and the black one is marketed as a tennis shoe.

You can see some minor differences in the fabric kind of covering on top here and the aesthetics. But the lacing system is exactly the same and the soles are exactly the same. The back is exactly the same. Everything is pretty much the same. So basically if you are in the market for this shoe, you don’t need to pick the pickleball one if you’re a pickleball player, you can just pick the cosmetic or the branding that you like the best. So I got these shoes to see if they were going to be comfortable as something to test out on the pickleball court.

I bought these from the Asics website for $90 so it’s a reasonably priced shoe. And I wanted to see how they, they felt. I have been trying them on my feet just walking around in the house, and I gotta be honest with you, they’re a bit uncomfortable, I’m not gonna lie. Like they’re just sort of hard on my feet.

Yeah. They feel kind of uncomfortable. I’ve been walking around in my house comparing them to the Asics Gel Rocket 11 which is meant as an indoor court shoe predominantly.

Here’s a comparison visually between the Gel Game 9 and the Rocket 11. This is $75 versus so the Gel Game 9 is $15 more. I’ve got them both on my feet right now. I’ve been walking around in my house and I much prefer the feel of the Gel Rocket 11.

The Rocket 11 is it’s not the most comfortable shoe Asics makes, you can see some of my other videos for for more higher-end, uh shoes and more comfortable ones. For the extra 15 bucks that uh this Gel Game 9 is, I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t pay for this I would just stick to the Asics Gel Rocket 11 if it were me. I find it more comfortable. I’m trying to figure out why that is.

I measured the amount of padding that they each have and, you know they’re different constructions so it’s a little hard to tell, but I really wasn’t able to find anything major in the construction that would be different.

I even measured the hardness of the plastic with a tool that I found on Amazon. I really am not able to tell much of a difference as to why the Rockets feel more comfortable except for possibly one thing. Which is that the width of the Rocket is a little more. I may just like the feel of it better. The Rocket was about 11 and a half centimeters across at the toe box.

And the Gel Game 9 was only 11 centimeters across. So it could just be that the extra width of the toe box in the gel rocket is more comfortable on my feet. And if you have narrow feet, you may prefer that Gel Game 9, but that’s my opinion. So I’m going to be sending these back to Asics. Thanks Asics uh I you know I buy a lot of stuff from their website so I appreciate that. I’m going to send these back though and I’ll be back in some other videos testing out more Asics shoes. If you want to see more subscribe and I’ll see you in the next video. Bye…

I am an amateur player, trying my hand at tennis, squash and badminton.
Just bought Gel 9 thinking it would fit all purposes.
    Should I be worried now?
