Here’s a quick video review I did of this racket. Really enjoyed the crisp feel of this model. As mentioned in the video, part of that could be the strings, which are the Dunlop Iconic Pro AF.

Here is the prior version of the Dunlop Sonic Core 120. This came out in 2020 and replaced the Dunlop Hyperfibre+ Evolution Pro.

Reviews

Here’s my review of this racket, which was provided by Dunlop for me to review (thanks Dunlop). Almost zero vibration on this racket, very solid.

Dunlop Sonic Core Evolution 120 Review Transcript

This is 120 gram racket on my scale all in with everything it’s 157 and a half grams and on my balance scales it’s a 52 percent of that weight in the head that’s the lightest head lightest reading i’ve gotten so far since switching to that method of doing things this felt super solid on court today i was testing a different racket uh prior to this and i thought it was thinking oh wow this is really low vibration but then grabbing this afterward this is almost zero vibration so it’s very solid

I think some of that’s got to be this frame shape it has the extra stability of this uh piece in the throat i guess you call that a hybrid shape and some of that’s probably the string as well this is the dunlop great white string that’s their stock string hitting through this is it feels absolutely just rock solid all the way through i like the cosmetics they’ve got a blue and green style and we here’s the marketing card normally look like that they’ve updated it to have that kind of thing with the dunlop arrow that green you can see on the frame as well that they’ve been doing the last couple of years

I think it looks good this is nick matthews signature frame they are dunlop’s the sponsor official racket of the psa world tour they’ve actually got a bag that they sent me with a psa um world tour kind of branded bag that i’ll be reviewing later as well this is the back of the card i kind of like how they did this it’s just all their pros and they’ve got them all stacked up here this thing is 200 bucks in the u.s it’s dunlop’s top of the line racket range and it’s coming out in 2020 i’ll have more videos on the other dunlops that have come out this year many thanks to dunlop for sending me these to review

Notes

This used to be the Nick Matthew signature racket. I presume we’ll still see Nick in the marketing for this frame.

The 2022 model of the Sonic Core Evolution 120 weighed in at 151g on my home scale in stock form, and 155g with TF305, and Wilson perf overgrip. I may replace the stock grip since it seems to be where a lot of the weight is coming from.

I would be interested to see where the 130g version weighs in at, since my 130g Black Knight Ion element psx only weighs 149 grams with Ashaway strings and Overgrip.

How does the Sonic Core Evolution 120 compare to the Hyperfibre XT Revelation Pro Lite? Are you considering switching?

Replying to Patrick: I’ve given up and went back to my Pro Warrior. The SC Evolution is a powerful racket with a very solid and comfortable hit but it’s heavier than I like and I’m used to and more appropriate for players that prefer head heavy rackets.

Thanks for the cool reviews Pierre! What would you say are the biggest differences between this one and the NS Airshaft that you’ve reviewed recently? Do you find them similar or suited for different game styles? Thanks in advance

That’s a good question. I’ll do a direct comparison after I’ve gotten through some of these Dunlop reviews

    Dear Pierre.
    – The feeling is different with Previous(evolution Pro120, Nick matthew) model?
    – how about balance?(head 57% means ??cm?)
    – 157.5g is pretty heavier than previous. did you feel difference?

    I always thank your review~

The balance in centimetres is 36cm. It felt a little heavier than what I remember of the previous model. But it has been a couple years since I tried the other one, so it’s difficult to remember.

I found this new model felt a lot heavier than previous model! Definitely more powerful but not as manoeuvrable! Having played with this model of racket for a few years not sure I like this new one!

Same here. It seems much more powerful but less maneuverable. It remains solid for volleying but not as much as the last version in my opinion. it doesn’t feel extra head light on the hand. Weight seems to be in the middle of the racket – it feels different to an even balance though. I am really struggling to adapt…

Yeah totally agree. I even got the ramy air stick 130 out and compared them and the air stick feels lighter and that’s supposed to be 130g and head heavy!

      Hi Pierre,
The new Dunlop 2020 Series is selling well and so far the Ultimate seems to be the best seller at the moment. Keep up the good previews
      regards Derek
