Dunlop Sonic Core Iconic 130 Review
Dunlop sent me this racket to review. It took me a minute to figure out why Dunlop would release a third traditional head shape racket into their lineup, but eventually it dawned on me: this is ideally a squash doubles racket. The sturdy design and head-heavy balance work great for hardball doubles. Here’s a video of my review, and if you aren’t familiar with North American hardball squash doubles you can check out some gameplay starting at 3:38.

This racket is fantastic. I can completely understand why a pro would opt for something lighter and more streamlined, but for a club player I have to say that this racket makes your technique better! The balance is absolute perfect (truly even ‘feeling’) but the weight being on the ‘heavy’ side means power is easy and there’s lots of control. I also have to say that the sweet spot is enormous because the head shape is wider than most ‘classic’ headshapes; this racket is supposed to be a remake of the Jonathan Power C-Max Muscle Weave which had a head size of 525cm^2, the Iconic 130 has an advertised 500cm^2 but I suspect that it is actually also 525cm^2 because of how forgiving it feels! Due to the large head size I think 16×19 strings was a great choice. My only complaint is that the frame is thicker than I am used to from other Dunlop Sonic Cores, this does not affect hitting tight balls but I can feel a difference in air resistance when swinging quickly.
