There are three Mantis squash strings at the moment:

Mantis Tour Response
Mantis Tour Braided
Mantis T-Power

Mantis Tour Response

This seems to come in two gauges:

  • 1.22mm (17 gauge)
  • 1.18mm (17L gauge)

And it also comes in two colors, black or natural.

I tried a pack of the 1.22mm Mantis Tour Response because of how cheap it is ($5). I strung at 27 lbs on a closed throat racket. Initial impression is that its fairly stiff string leading to a lot of vibrations at 27 lbs. There doesn’t appear to be a coating on it to absorb vibrations. On the plus side, its very smooth so string up a racket is a pleasant experience (as opposed to a more textured string which makes pulling the crosses thru more work). Due to its stiffness, I would maybe suggest stringing it at a slightly lower tension (24 lbs?). This would help with the vibrations I think. It is a multifilament string more similar to 305 that to Ashaway’s string.
