Squash Shoe Insoles

I’ve been testing out a few different squash shoe insoles / inserts. I’m not sure what the difference is between insoles and inserts, so I’m using the terms interchangeably for now.

Here’s my video review. These have lots of cushioning. Actually when I first tried these in my Salming Adders, there was too much cushioning in the right foot, to the point where it hurt my toe. They fit really well in my Vipers though.

Just used the Sorbothane Full Strike and would not buy again, didn’t fit my shoe properly (Slaming Hawks Size UK 9) and didn’t really fit in the shoe properly as was a slimy material on the bottom so would fall out. Also the top layer and part of it disintegrated after less than 2 months. If in the UK just brought a pair of insoles from M&S for £3 that fit the shoe perfectly and have a nice lemony smell, hopefully they last a bit longer.

Try the footlogics-shop.com.au inserts. I use the sport ones and they feel very solid.

I’ve had good success with sof sole athlete insoles in the past, and I’m going to try some again this week. Tough matches two days in a row have my heels pretty sore, hopefully they will do the trick.

    Hey Pierre.

My first thought here would be to consult a podiatrist as they have some amazing resources at their disposal these days. As some can be pretty expensive I’ve found a few very good off-the-shelf options…

    1. By far my favourites are the Spenco Earhbound insoles. these give fantastic cushioning in the forefoot area and also have great arch support.

    2. Sorbathane Mens Ultra Sole. Arch support is not as pronounced as the Spenco’s but the cushioning is unsurpassed. They are a little thick all over but the rebound is excellent.

    3. Scholl’s Orthaheels. These were actually recommended as a good off-the-shelf option by my podiatrist and provide excellent arch support as well as excellent heel cushioning.
I got mine from the local pharmacy but here’s an eBay link to show them…

        Hey Pierre,
I was looking for a squash specific review of the Asics Gel Rockets and came across your site here. Can’t believe I haven’t come across it yet but I’m all subscribed to your newsletter and Youtube channel so I think I’m all set. I think I remember you back from the days of the US Squash forum?
Anyway, thanks for putting up such a great resource for squash community here.

Regarding foot insoles, at the ripe old age of 38 I’ve had two episodes of metatarsalgia (squash induced I think) now, that has me concerned. I did see a podiatrist after the first episode a couple years ago and he recommended an insole (I’m pretty sure it was a Spenco), so I went ahead an ordered my second pair from Amazon (Spenco Cross Trainer) this week – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GCLT4I/
If these don’t work out, I’ll give some of these others you’ve reviewed a try. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Hi guys, I tried the Sorbothanes on my adidas stabils, the cushion was great, but they were way to thick in the heel area. Are the Spenco thinner?

The Spenco was quite thick. Unfortunately I juuuust cleaned out my squash closet and threw away the insoles I had tested, but I think the Superfeet Carbon was the thinnest of these
