The Asics Gel Fireblast 2 is happening, people. The first version, the Asics Gel Fireblast, was a bit controversial — some readers loved it, and others hated it. World #1 Mohamed El Shorbagy wore them.
Anyway, here comes the Asics Gel Fireblast 2. Retail price is £120 in the UK. Yowza.
Men’s Asics Gel Fireblast 2
I only spotted this black and green one in July 2016, but I have a feeling it came out before that and just missed it:

Here’s a review by Paul from PDH Sports, including a comparison with the previous Fireblast model.

England’s Joel Hinds, on the left, is wearing the orange one.

I like this design. The color is called “mid-grey/white/flash coral”. Not low-grey or high-grey. Mid-grey.

– am looking for a new pair is ASICS and have previously loved this model so much (Durability and lightness being the key as I wreck shoes)
Can anyone advise me what pair to replace these as there is as of yet no new fireblast and there aren’t any in my size anymore !! :/

I would have thought the Fastball 3 would make the most sense. Mohammed El-Shorbagy made the same switch from the Fireblast to the Fastball. If you believe the marketing around the the new Gel Blast FF they ought to be lighter than previous iterations of the Blast models due to the Flyte Foam construction. Aside from Asics I’ve always thought that the Salming Race R1s offer a good balance of lightness (although definitely not the lightest) and durability.

Picked up a pair of these in the orange ‘distract your opponent by blinding them’ color. Was around 70€ on discount in Finland.
The quality is great. Good quality material that gives the feeling of durability. The outer skin in particular is one of the best quality that I have seen on indoor shoes.
My foot is a bit wide and I had a difficult time in the beginning as the shoes are not wide. However after around 8-9 games and a bit of re-lacing i feel fine. You just have to know how tight to tie the laces.
Grip is a bit low but cushioning is great. Light shoes and they give a good feel.
Overall great quality shoes and would recommend them.

Hi all,
Started playing squash again after about 8 months out of the sport (had exams.) So I thought for my grand return I would purchase the Gel Blast 2s and I can say they’re a tighter fit than my previous shoes (prince) but they feel more of a solid shoe with good arch support and cushioning, my feet weren’t sweaty even after 5 hours of solid squash at club night, the durability seems to be pretty solid, compared to other brands where the upper would ‘flake/tear’ and the sole is solid too, if you have the money I would recommend these shoes or the Gel Blast 7s as they are another good option. Asics, for me anyway have better than most companies in terms of durability on the sole, meaning you don’t have to replace the shoe every few months. So in my opinion worth the extra bit of cash. Any questions please reply.

Doesn’t look like Shornagy is wearing fireblast at the ToC, a different Asics model?

Looks like he’s wearing asics fastball

Right you are – perhaps he doesn’t like the striking orange colour of the fireblast 2

I noticed El Shorbagy was still wearing the old fireblast at the British grand prix…….maybe he doesn’t like the orange colour?! are they available in any other colour?
has anyone bought and tried these yet, much different than the original Fireblast?
I’m currently wearing the Adipower Stabil 11 but I get the feeling it’s too bulky.

He probably bought several pairs of the original version. So far, I’ve only seen the new one in orange.

picked up a pair of these – very pricey and not a huge fan of the colour but the performance is oustanding, great shoe.
