Salming Hawk

The Salming Hawk is a non-marking indoor court shoe from Salming that is appropriate for squash and other indoor court sports. The Salming Hawk was first released in 2018, with updated models being released in 2019.

Updates: the Salming Hawk 2 is dropping in 2020. The Salming Hawk Court is a lower-cost model introduced in 2019.

Salming Hawk

The construction of the Salming Hawk is different from other squash shoe brands and from other Salming models in that the outsole wraps all the way around the upper part of the shoe. This allows Salming to apply their “RollBar” material around the outside of the entire sole. You can see this in the photos, it’s the clear material that wraps around the soles of the shoes. This is meant to improve the shoe’s stability as you are lunging and pushing off around the court.

I will be watching like a hawk for more info on these shoes.

Here’s an overview of the shoe construction by Brian from Salming, which was posted in 2018 when the original models were released:

Here’s a review from Paul at PDH Sports featuring the original 2018 models:

Salming Hawk 2019 Models

Salming is coming out with a new version of the Hawk for 2019. There are two models, the Salming Hawk, which is their top-tier shoe, and the Salming Hawk Court, which is less expensive.

Per Salming:

A multi sport senior model made for all types of indoor sports. Made with a durable PU upper, an EVA midsole and a Hexagrip patterned outsole that features Salmings TGS62/75 plus an arch unit for enhanced torque characteristics.

  2. Above overview isn’t correct.
There are two types of Hawk’s:
    1) The “real” (/higher priced) version: https://www.salming.com/nl/squash/men/shoes/hawk/salming-hawk-shoe-men/c-927/p-39255 Retails at +/- €150-€160.
    2) The Hawk COURT version: https://www.salming.com/nl/squash/men/shoes/hawk/salming-hawk-court-shoe-men/c-927/p-39322 Retails at €70-€80.

The real version has much more “features”, sole is different etc.

    1. The COURT version is the one, marked as:

“White / Black / Flame Red

There will also be a white version.:”

      1. Thanks Jeroen! Will update this soon

  3. Had the Orange/Black Lava version. VERY good looking and comfortable shoe, as opposed to other shoes didn’t have to wear them in at all, was very comfortable out of the box. Had heard before buying that they wore out quickly and the colour faded however this wasn’t the case at all, was still holding up strong after 7+ months, with only the expected wear and tear. The only downside to these I would say is that they are quite low riding, I’ve twisted my ankle a few times in these which may not have happened with a higher ankle shoe.

  4. I’ve been using a pair of these for about three weeks, and love these shoes. I’ve been using Salming Race shoes for the last two years, and these feel similar , but improved. It’s really easy to get the lacing right with the Hawk, and they feel grippy and comfortable. Also, the Hawk shoes fit my feet the same as most shoes (Nike, Asics). With the Race models, I needed to wear 1/2 size down from my normal US sizing. Euro sizing is the same, but the US sizing was off w the Race. (41 1/3 = US 7.5 on the Race, 41 1/3= US 8 on the Hawk)

  5. any feedback on these guys?

    1. Yap. Outstanding shoes! I’ve been playing with these since early May – 3 times a week on average – and they have been holding up very fine indeed.

I am a heavy player and I have a long term injury to my left foot. With my previous shoes Asics and Salming Viper, I usually ended more active games with some pain/sore feel on the feet and now that is gone.

They are not as low profile as the Slaming Vipers or Asics Fireblast but they are still lower profile than average.

They have a bouncy feel which I like but not sure if it is to everyone’s liking…

      Hope this helps.
