Wilson Ultra Countervail Review
I did a review of the Wilson Ultra Countervail here. I really enjoyed this racket.
Product Notes
The Ultra range is new from Wilson. It’s a new frame shape for them and it looks like a Carboflex-style teardrop racket.
This is the most expensive racket in the Ultra range. The others:
- Wilson Ultra Triad
- Wilson Ultra UL (Ultra-Ultra Lite)
- Wilson Ultra L (Ultra Lite)

This racquet feels very light, more like a 120 or even 110. It’s very comparable to the Technifibre 125 S carboflex in head lightness.

Another tip is to cut away the bumper guard. Just slide a box cutter blade under it and cut the small links holding it together.. The balance moved in around a centimeter after doing this..

Update: Both my “Ultra Countervail” rackets are now broken. First one I whacked against the wall out of anger. It wasn’t a hard whack and most racquets would not have cracked . But this one did. Second one I mistimed a shot in a tournament and hit the glass backwall and it cracked.. My impression is these rackets will crack easily compared to others..

My son pick the Wilson Blade Countervail and bought one in October last year. He really loves the feel and control of the racket.
In February the racket broke – I accept it might have been a wall monster that took a bite.
So dad needed to buy a new racket as they are mids in a league.
Last night during practice the second one also broke – right in the middle. This time I am 100% sure it was not the wall monster as I was there and saw their game.
I am just wondering if other Councervail users also have this experience and if not if someone can give me some advise on a more rigid racket we can buy next time it the new one brakes again.

Hi I bought two of these rackets back in October, both still going strong. I play nearly every day so they have been subject to a lot of wear, only one re-string and a lot of new grips so far.

How do you find them for power?did you re string?if so what type and tension?would love feed back

Just bought a couple of these that I can only describe as Wilson Wands. The power they generate is truly amazing without that much effort, the balance of the racket makes it feel very much lighter than its actual weight. Well worth the price.

Hi Gordie,
Have you restrung them in a better string?tension?total strung weight?Am interested in trying this one and the Blade(Nicole David)one.

Would love to see a review of this racket,am intrigued by the Countervail tech blurb.
I’m after a racket with easy power for a club player,age 49.
Currently play with Head cyano xt graphene 135,Head light,17 x 12 string pattern with technifbre 305 green 1.1 mm at 24 lbs.
Most power I’ve had in a racket but can be at the expense of some control, hence the Wilson interest
