Asics Blast FF

The Asics Blast FF are indoor court shoes from Asics.

Update: the Asics Blast FF 2 are coming out

Asics Blast FF

In the beginning, these were known as the Asics Gel Blast FF, but Asics has dropped the “Gel” from the name on these shoes, and now they’re just called the Asics Blast FF. Some stores still have them listed as the Gel-Blast FF though.

These are the successors to the Asics Gel Blast 7 and there will be no “Asics Gel Blast 8”. The prior model was a reasonably popular pair of squash shoes among the pros.

Versions: Men | Women | Junior

The FF is a reference to for FlyteFoam material in the shoe. Here are the benefits, according to Asics:

MORE CUSHIONING, LESS WEIGHT

Constructed using groundbreaking midsole foam developed in the ASICS Institute of Sports Science, FlyteFoam® technology isn’t just a little bit lighter – it’s remarkably 55%* lighter than the industry standard. Midsoles constructed with FlyteFoam® tech aren’t just super lightweight, either: They benefit from organic “super fibers” that bounce back into their original shape in the space of each stride, providing perfect adaptive cushioning from the start of your run to the finish. This engineered resilience also makes midsoles with FlyteFoam® technology far more durable than their predecessors, so your body benefits not only from an elite level of cushioning, but elite cushioning will perform at its peak longer and stronger than ever before.

Asics Blast FF Review

Here’s a review (in German) from weplayhandball.de:

Men’s Asics Blast FF

Black / Sour Yuzu

This one is black with what looks like a yellow Asics logo. And it has light blue soles, oooh-la-la.

Junior

Here’s a junior model. Handball Shop has it listed as the Blast 7 but I think that might be an error because the color scheme is the same as the men’s Blast FF above.

Different sizing that all Asic model. I used Asic in 9.5 since 10 years but this 9,5 is to big for me. I tried the 9 and it fit very tight ! Look great shoes but try it before buying !

Well, I’ve got Asics Gel Rocket 7 and Salming Viper 5 before.
I can say that Asics Gel Blast FF provide more cushion with the same weight as Salming Viper. They look/feel more durable then Viper. They are a little bit tight in the middle of the shoe, not sure how to explain that right. But after couple trainings it is totally OK.

I’ve added Karakal Soles inside and overall happy with the shoe. Probably won’t come back to Salming to the quality of the finish and fabrics they use.

It is been 10 months since I bought them.
Playing around 3 times per week they are still OK.
I am 84 kilos, a pretty active player.

The only thing I don’t like is they are not breathable, and I sweat a lot 😀

Looking to try Sky Elite FF as my next shoe.

    Hello guys..
Please I wanna know which is the overall better “squash shoe” between the new asics gel blast FF and the new asics gel fastball 3 2018 model (black and orange colour).
Which would u recommend for a squash player. Looking at Court grip, Durability, support and comfort… all those things etc.
    Thanks.

It’s pretty hard to say given that the Blast FF is a brand new shoe that doesn’t appear to be widely available yet. If I was faced with the choice I would go with the Blast-FF. I had the Fastball 2 which I believe is very similar to the Fastball 3 and I found it to be lacking a little in stability.

Fastball 3 is significantly different than Fastball 2. It sits lower so is inherently more stable. I’ve also had the Blast-7 and didn’t find it to be more stable than Fastball 3, though the Blast is definitely more cushioned (at the expense of weight and bulk).

FlyteFoam material (FF) provides extra cushioning and shock absorption.

I have the Gel Blast 7. Great support, great cushioning, very durable but….a bit heavy. I also have Asics running shoes with Flyte Foam, witch makes them superlight. I hope it provides the Blast with an improvement on weight without compromising it’s other benefits.
