Tecnifibre Dynergy APX Range

The Tecnifibre Dynergy APX squash rackets are an update of Tecnifibre’s previous Tecnifibre Dynergy AP models.

There are three rackets in the range:

  • Tecnifibre Dynergy APX 120
  • Tecnifibre Dynergy APX 130
  • Tecnifibre Dynergy APX 135

These have the same general mold as the previous Dynergy APs, however Tecnifibre has significantly overhauled the stringing and grommet pattern.

They’ve now got a traditional stringing pattern instead of a fan shape. They’ve also reworked the racket throat to be a conventional style with grommets, ditching the previous Prince-style looped strings in the throat.

Here’s a closeup of the new racket throat:

You can see the difference compared to the old Dynergy AP 125:

In addition to the racket changes, Tecnifibre will also be stringing the 120 and 130 with Tecnifibre X-One Biphase 1.25mm string in a new orange color, instead of DNAMX.

I actually got a chance to hit with these briefly in December, in a top-secret undisclosed testing facility, but Tecnifibre asked me not to post about them until the launch was official. PDH Sports mentioned them in a vlog today and posted the rackets for presale, so I assume the embargo has lifted!

I bought the APX 120 recently. I actually play with the original Carboflex yellow.

I have to say that I have been surprised with the feel of the APX at first. Yes it is powerful and the sweet spot is bigger, but it feels way heavier in the head. So it takes a while to get used to it. I don’t hate it, but was expecting something lighter being advertised as a 120 grams racket.

I put both rackets on the scale and this what I have:
Carboflex 125 grams – on my scale 151 grams
APX 120 grams – on my scale 161 grams.

What is wrong, The string and overgrip doesnt weight 40 grams altogether..

Anyway, so you know, still a good racket, but was expected something lighter.

Are you sure you don’t have the 130? I play with that one and it’s 157 grams on my scale all in

Totally sure, this is why I find it so strange.

Anyone else notice Dessouki has gone back to the Carboflex.

That frame is probably the gold standard for racquets for the last 3 yrs. Between it and all the knockoff versions, probably 80% of the tours use it.

Good catch. The APX can’t get much love. I am trying to get together an equipment update for the Pyramids and will include this – thanks for the heads up

I’m thinking of buying the 135 but can’t make my mind up.
I bought the X speed 125 and can’t get on with it at all. I don’t understand why so many people race about it in all honesty.
I’d like to hear from anyone who is using APX range and ask what they think?

Does it have a nice feel? Big sweet spot? Forgiving? Robust against the wall?

I’d most likely swap out the 135 standard string and go for the 305 or DNAMX

I’ve got the 135 (a few comments on it on the specific page). In short, it is really good, and I feel I’ve more all-round control (and heaps more power) than with my Carboflex 135S. I’ve not been playing long, but the APX has had a huge impact on all sorts of aspects of my game. I say get it.

How’s the APX 135 treating you still Rob?
I found myself in a unique situation with the 120 … I have been using the x-speed 125 since the end of February this year, and I’ve loved it every bit of the way, it’s unforgivable ways and all (I figured it’d train me to hit the sweet spot every time, and minimize the miss hits). But as advanced play goes on, when the pace starts picking up and you find yourself in those opportunities to react to the ball flying at you because your opponent has ripped the ball down the middle of the court from digging out a drop shot in the front corner and you have less than half a second to volley it deep into the opposite corner or do a delicate volley drop into the other front corner… mishits are going to happen from time to time. I’ve noticed it when it happens in my X-Speed and sometimes I get away with it, sometimes it leaves the ball up and I get punished, such is life.
I came across the 120 APX last night because I was supposed to pick it up off one squash mate, so I could give it to another. However the racket in question was understood by the mate wanting the purchase was supposed to be the 130 weight model, he don’t want the 120, so basically I said I’ll take it instead, just for funzies.
I hit about 15 mins with it solo, and I was largely impressed. It’s much more solid and very generous on mishits, great feel too! The power and length I was able to achieve on my rails was at what felt like 2/3 the effort or even less I would normally have to use to get on the x-speed, so if I really have some time to wind up and crush a ball, I imagine it will be freakishly fast. He strung it up in the Ashaway Multi Nick 18g, which I’ve never tried before, but the setup as is I was very impressed. I will be playing more matches tonight, so I am much looking forward to seeing how it plays compared to the x-speed.

Using the carboflex right now, but not my favorite. Looking for a more forgiving racket.

very strange… the prince-like stringing pattern and grommets were very good on dynergy ap 125. the only good modification seems to be the new string. dynamx string broke very quickly. i love my dynergy ap 125 and now i am a bit sad. it is very hard to get nowadays a proper prince racket, and now this prince-styled stringing patterned technifibre will also disappear. I believe the outgoing model must have been a failure on the market, and even rodriguez stopped using it. but still, for me it was/is a very good racket.

Like you mentioned, I don’t think the original Dynergy AP models sold very well overall, so Tecnifibre are trying something new. Probably part of the reason the strings broke quickly on the old models was the ring-style stringing pattern itself takes a toll on the strings.

In other news, it appears Prince is bringing out some new models such as the Phoenix Pro. Hopefully they will get their distribution sorted out for 2019…
