Eye squash shoes! Eye shoes were first spotted on Paul Coll, and over the past couple of years, Eye has signed more players to wear their shoes, including Greg Marche, Diego Elias, Karim Abdel Gawad, and Declan James.

Here’s my first impression of these shoes:
Auto-generated video transcript:
What’s up squash players I’ve got a pair of shoes I’m gonna start reviewing. These are the Eye Rackets shoes. This is the 2019 model that’s part of their second wave of shoes. I think this is called Night Storm Navy. Big thanks to PDH Sports who gave me this pair of shoes to review. This is a popular shoe on the pro circuit. A lot of the Eye players use this. A lot of a lot of players that use their rackets and also that don’t use the rackets and just use their shoes are playing with these. I’m using a US 12 because they don’t come in 11.5 US and I guess that’s the standard approach for Eye. I’m not sure how far down the sizing chart that that goes. These have a dark sole but it’s non-marking and obviously they’re designed specifically for squash so of course they’re non-marking. They have kind of eyelets so you can cinch up your shoes pretty tight so we’ll see I might have to use that. Because they’re a little bit they’re half size bigger than my normal. Although Paul from PDH Sports said that these do run a little small. So they have removable insoles. I’ve already actually worn these today on court and have some very quick feedback that I’ll give you in a second. So the the Eye Rackqets logo has already worn off in my first day. Got the new Eye logo on the side there. These come in a bunch of different colors and but they’re all I think the same shoe other than the fact that there was an initial version that came out a few years ago and this is the updated model that pretty much you’re gonna get everywhere you go. There’s the front here has the Eye logo. It’s kind of got this like plastic sheen over it but it’s just covering normal kind of absorbent mesh all around the shoe. When I first put these on I noticed that coming from the shoes that I was wearing these had very little arch support. It feels very flat inside the shoe. The sizing seemed seemed pretty good maybe a little bit large so I’m gonna have to see how it goes as I as I break it in whether it feels too large. The grip was immediately very very secure. I didn’t have any slips at all throughout the throughout my day today and so it’s a good start from that aspect. One of these I just put on the scale and it weighs 395 grams so maybe a touch on the heavier side compared to some other shoes. It doesn’t feel super padded, it feels kind of like a stiff sole, and it feels sort of higher in the back as far as I can make out and kind of tapers down to the front so you feel like you’re pitched forward which which is good for those hunting on the T. We’ll have to see about the durability. This is my first first day’s scraping there on that this is my left foot where I drag my toe on the way into the front and I’ve already got some sort of an initial coat of paint has been scraped off there. First impression was decent. My foot was moving around in the shoe maybe a little more so I think I’m gonna go out and maybe a little more than I would have liked so I think I’m gonna go out next time and make sure these are tightened up nicely with these eyeholes here and we will see how they go over time. I just wanted to give you an introduction to these while they were still while they were still reasonably fresh out of the box . So again that is the – these are called the Eye S-Line squash shoes and I’ll be back with a follow-up video on these in the future to let you know kind of how they they wore over time. Hope that was helpful. Thanks a lot.

Joey Barrington’s video overview:
Here are some comments from Squash Source reader JLB:
I have now had the eye shoes for approximately 5 months. They are more durable than the salming, in the fact that the sole is still holding together, however, the plastic type covering around the toe has now been torn through (this went after about 2 months of playing 2/3 times a week). I shall hopefully send a picture through to show the damage. But they are comfy, tight at first as i’ve got quite wide feet, but they are wonderful to move around in. Similar to the salming viper.
Eye X.Lite shoes
This was a previous model, spotted back in May 2016. There’s also an Eye X.Lite series of rackets, so the naming choice was a little strange. I’m glad they switched it up for the later models.

Anyone have the S Line shoe (2018/2019 or even the new 2019/2020 model) that can put it up on the scale and give it’s weight in ounces/grams? I’ve heard mixed reviews on the S line; some people complain about durability, while others who may be a little easier on their shoes had no durability issues other than reasonable expected wear and tear really love these shoes all around.
Thanks in advance for any input!

Hi
i sell eye and salming shoes . so for comparison in a womens size 40 i weight few months back it was about same weight (salming viper model ) salming 15 grams less . 265 vs 280 ,something like that . About the durability i think only the first batch was less durable but the made more durable the shoe in the front . i am expecting the 2020 model in the end of the month . they have change it a little bit especially the upper . about the size : usually go one size up (eye fit is small)

Thanks for the comments Vagos! I’ve used wide variety from Adidas, to Salming Kobra 2 to currently Asics. My current choice is Asics, have great feel and support, the weight for my current shoe is 12.8oz (converts to roughly ~362 grams), so seeing if there are any other options out there for great support and comfort still while shaving some weight off. I am liking the looks of the new S Line coming out, I think I will give them a try.
Cheers,

hi
what is your US size to compare the weight ?
John says
()
My US size is 10.5 in my Asics shoes weighing at 12.8oz. So I would get the Euro 45/UK 10/US 11 sizing in the S Line

eye shoes weights 360grams
salming viper 5 335gr
salming hawk 345gr

I have had Eye Sline shoes for about 6 months now…..have played about 3 times a week in them since then. Firstly I got size 12US instead of my standard Size 11 that i wear in Salming Kobras, based on review on their size fitting small. However in hindsight, i should have gotten the actual size as the 12US is a little lose. I do suspect that 11US will be a little tight. Ideally 11.5US would have been perfect but Eye doesnt make half sizes.
Secondly, although the shoes are low profile and have great stability and grip, their quality is quite wanting. I havent had any shoes(salming, prince, dunlop) ever wear down this fast. In my case, the left shoe tow rubber has started breaking apart, and at other spots, u can feel that the toe rubber has worn out to quite an extent and will break open any day. Eye seriously needs to work on durability. I have had Salming Kobras for a year now and they are still playing without any issues.

The shoes are very stylish and look good on anyone, BUT they are very expensive when you get to notice that they are too heavy ,and also very flat on the sole (not cushiones at all, even if the appearance makes you think they have cushion) not to mention that they don`t make the shoes in 27.5 cms ,so you have to buy either the 27 cms or the 28 cms, which will lead you to injuries and feet pain in the period of a week. for that price you can get Adidas indoors or even better
Rob says
()
Can anyone provide an up to date review on these shoes as I’m looking at possibly buying a pair.
Jason Kim says
()
These are very cool looking shoes, and the materials are great. Decently breathable and cushioned. My only problem is that they’re too heavy. I would expect very high support and cushion from a shoe this heavy, but it’s a bit lackluster. That combined with the price makes it hard for me to recommend these shoes over other shoes from Salming and Asics. If you want a shoe like the S-Line that has looks, cushion and the nice materials, I’d just go for the Race series of shoes from Salming. I’ve tried the Race X and R9 and they’re both great.
Erik says
()
I completely agree with this. The only issue with the Race series that I have noticed is that they break way too quickly. The toe-guard on the inner side of the Race X will wear down within a few weeks and then the gum rubber will break down after about two months.
Jason Kim says
()
Yeah, the Race X‘s durability is one of its downsides. If only it lasted longer. Because of that, the gel blast 7s (maybe the FFs, have to try them out) are my go-to shoe, but the Race X’s would be if I had an unlimited supply of them.
The Salming Hawk seems like a great alternative to both the Race X and the S-Line. I have to try them out too.
Patch says
()
I bought a pair of Eye shoes (the light blue model) in March, and I have to say that I disagree with JLB regarding their durability; even more if compared to the Salmings.
Since I own them, I’ve used them the same amount of times as my Kobras (which I have since October), and while these are still in perfect shape, the Eyes have completely torn apart in the toe areas; specially the left shoe, where my sock is now completely exposed.
However, I was very happy with the comfortability and performance of the Eye shoes (at the same level as the Kobra or the R1, and above all the Adidas models I used to wear), although I’m not even thinking of replacing them with another pair: their price is too high for a 6 month life.

Do Eyeshoes make Squash shoes in women’s sizes?
If so, where can they be purchased in Canada (Nova Scotia specifically)?
Thanks
Don says
()
Any thoughts on their sizing though? I wear a US 9.5 and it seems like they skip from 9 to 10 (because of EU sizing). Suggestion?
Vagelis says
()
Eye Shoes run small .in salming i wear us11-11.5 (EU45-46) ,in Eye i wear US12(EU46)
Andy says
()
These are nice shoes but the sizing is messed up. basically i usually wear 43.5-44 but these I wear 45- 28 cm.
The sizing on their official site is wrong so watch out for that. Here you ll find the correct sizing:
https://www.squashtime.pl/mens-shoes-eye-line-electric-purple-p-33796.html?osCsid=eab88f38c4ebc70d561c711256338fcb
Otherwise the shoes are ok. They look really nice, but comparing with any Asics shoes the durability is far worse.
Feroze Gulzar says
()
I wear a size 10UK/11US/29cm in Salming Kobras. Does that mean I should go up a full size in Sye S line? That would make it 11UK/12US.
D says
()
These new Eye shoes look very familiar.. very familiar indeed. Almost like…. Asics shoes.
Asics Gel soles are quite distinctive, with (1) the circle at the ball of the foot and the lines leading away from it and (2) the plastic support at the shank, between the heel and the toe.
Even the outsole looks like Asics.

Eye Rackets is a 100% squash brand, so all their products are developed thinking about their use specifically in our sport. All their efforts are focussed on squash, and we can perceive that feeling in their products. I´m waiting for the new 120 X.Lite Control, and if their shoes are good, when my Asics Fireblast break down, probably I´ll buy these beautiful shoes. The desing looks quite good, waiting for your review Pierre!!
